Last update was on the 6th. Today's was on the 9th. ... Nice.

Oh right. Mercurial's a shapeshifter. It's odd how a lot of the villains are, not that I meant to imply that shapeshifters are all evil. I can't think of many powers that would throw the user into greater internal turmoil. Being able to be anyone (or a specific subset of anyone) or having a mutable physical structure would probably create a few identity issues and without a strong support network (like, say, growing up in a tunnel system with no one even realizing you exist) I can't imagine shapeshifters coming out of that well adjusted. Just because you can be anyone you want doesn't mean you'll like yourself deep down.

Superpowers-wise I think the only thing harder on the psyche would be being a natural-born telepath, because how do you know where 'you' end and other people begin? Would you even have a personality at that point, or would you just stand around in the background of every scene able to put a stop to everything in a heartbeat but unable to bring yourself to act?

On Shapeshifting: Honestly, the effects of Shape-shifting on the Psyche would depend on the type of Shape-shifting and it's limitations.

Being able to adjust height & body composition but keeping the same basic shape (aka, imitating other humans)? Possible to do damage long-term, and likely to have people constantly adjusting their appearance to suit their current view of "beauty".

Having Stretchy Limbs or able to take on Animal Forms without adjusting your base appearance, however, is unlikely to have much of an effect on the person's psyche... beyond what simply having super powers would do.

There are also plenty of other powers that would more directly affect Psyche, such as any type of splitting power, particularly depending on it's particular rule set. Being able to split into three people and back again alone could result in some interesting multiple-personality issues, and that's one of the most tame forms of body splitting there is. "Temporary" clones can easily result in larger issues, particularly with the immediate danger of death for the clones. "Permanent" clones would just be a complete NIGHTMARE. And having the clones share a single mind just amplifies the possibility of this problem happening.

Yeah, that's a powerset I've been avoiding for a reason. Dr. Qiang's already close, but her psychic projections are more for other peoples' benefit, casual visual representations of where she's paying the most attention.

She's everywhere. Watching everyone. All the time.
