I had no idea when I started this webcomic that word bubbles would be one of the most difficult things. They seem like such a small thing, but everything from size to positioning to where the trail is pointing matters. I've played with a fair number of word bubbles, from colored boxes to differentiate who is speaking to unusual shapes--like Sara's occasionally square boxes--to help tell people apart, but it's hard to tell how much of that is necessary.

I decided against colored boxes a long time ago, I felt they were too distracting and if I'm doing my job correctly as a storyteller and laying things out properly it should be obvious who's saying what. Sara's kept her square boxes, though. I don't like changing up my fonts, and it was a quick an easy way to make her text seem a little stiffer than other peoples.

But yeah, it turns out the shape of the text bubble and the type of trail you connect them with matters a lot more than I thought when I was first starting out.
